Acupuncture consists of the gentle insertion of fine, sterile, disposable needles into strategic points near the surface of the body. These points, which are so effective in treating disease, have been mapped by the Chinese over a period of two thousand years.
Acupuncture is not painful. In fact, most people experience a profound feeling of relaxation and well being during and after an acupuncture treatment.
Acupuncture works by stimulating the flow of “Qi” throughout the body. Where there is injury, the Qi or energy of the body gets stuck or becomes deficient. The painless insertion of needles helps bring the body’s attention to the area and resume the free flow of energy.
Qi flows through a system of twelve major pathways or meridians. Each meridian is connected internally to a specific organ such as the lung, liver, etc. The acupuncture points along these pathways can be used to affect a corresponding internal organ. When Qi in the meridians is balanced, the result is a state of ease and well-being.
From a western medicine point of view acupuncture causes many physiological changes in the body including vasodilatation (increased blood flow), stimulation of hormones and neurotransmitters, and stimulating the parasympathetic nervous system (allowing the patient to achieve very deep relaxation). Acupuncture invokes an analgesic effect by altering the body’s own natural pain-relieving opiate system.
Acupuncture works surprisingly quickly. Most patients experience a great reduction in their symptoms after the first treatment.
Community Style Acupuncture is a traditional style of treatment in which there are multiple people in one room being treated at the same time. This cuts down on costs, making it very affordable and accessible.Treating patients this way has many benefits beyond being more affordable. Many people find it comforting to have others around them rather than being isolated in a private room. The group treatment room creates a collective healing energy that enhances the power of each individual’s treatment, and it allows families and friends to visit the clinic together. This clinic is at my office in the Jacoby StoreHouse Building on the first and Third Saturdays of the Month for the summer. It is a flat $25 fee.

Chinese herbal medicine represents the cumulative clinical experience and time-tested theories of over two millennia of continuous practice by traditional Chinese physicians. Today, it is developing rapidly as a potent complementary and alternative medical practice in the U.S.
When recommended by a skilled practitioner, Chinese herbal medicine is a safe, effective and natural way to treat a wide array of health-related conditions. Most herbs are plant, flower and mineral derivatives. Often five or more Chinese herbs are combined to make one formula. Formulas are usually made into decocted teas, powders or pills to be ingested.
Chinese herbal medicine is often used in conjunction with acupuncture. Together, they are an effective combination for the treatment of many disorders. In many cases, acupuncture helps to regulate the energetic (yang) component of the body while Chinese herbal medicine helps to harmonize bodily deficiencies or excesses, the (yin) component.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), as many as 4 billion people, or 80 percent of the earth’s population, are estimated to use a form of herbal medicine in their health care. In addition, the WHO notes that of 119 plant-derived pharmaceutical medicines, about 74 percent are used in modern medicine in ways that correlated directly with their traditional uses as plant medicine by native cultures.
Cupping is a form of traditional medicine used in many cultures all over the world. It involves the practitioner creating vacuum in a cup, and then applying the cup to the patient’s body.
Cupping is very effective in treating patients with digestive problems, menstrual problems, respiratory problems like coughing or wheezing, as well as with many other aches and pains. Cupping has also been found to affect the body up to four inches deep. It causes the tissues to release toxins, triggers the lymphatic system, clears colon blockages, and helps stimulate and clear the veins, arteries and capillaries.
There are many benefits to Moxibustion Therapy. Clinically it increases blood cell counts especially that of white blood cells which strengthens the immune system. The heat produced from the burning moxa penetrates deeply into underlying tissues improving circulation and helping to reduce both pain and inflammation. If done properly, the heat of the Moxibustion can penetrate into the core of the pain location and has results far surpassing that of pain medication.
